The Straja Resort

In the northern part of the Vâlcan mountains, at a 1445 metres altitude, you can find the Straja Resort.

There are 12 different slopes, fit for beginners and intermediates as well. Five of these are equipped with lights to make them visible during the night.

..Modern ski lifts maintain the 26 kilometers of slopes. And the 25 cannons complete the necessary snow, with artificial snow. So, even in winters where there is not enough snow, winter sports lovers can enjoy adrenaline on the slopes.

The longest slope is 8 kilometres

Tourists that go to Straja can either use the chairlift or the gondola.

The longest slope is 8 kilometres long and the Constantinescu slope was just fitted with a new chairlift in 2016.

You do have to chance to learn how to ski with the help of instructors if you don't know how to ski yet. You just have to believe!

How to get to Straja Resort

There are two ways to get to Straja: by car, following the road through Lupeni, or by taking the chairlift which starts where the old chairlift used to start.

Both ways are relatively fast but we do recommend to use the chairlift because you will have the opportunity to see an amazing view.

The slopes are organised in a fan-like position and are covered with snow from November to April due to their placement.

There are more than 200 cabins and houses that offer accommodation. For anyone who likes to party there is also a disco.

Holiday and steep adventure!

For every "little" skier there is a special 60-metre long band. Parents who would like to offer their kids an amazing experience can benefit from complete camps, touristic guide, animators, hiking, speleology, climbing, zipline, horse riding, games and many other things.

There's also a lot of stuff to do during summer such as rafting on the Jiu river, paintball, off-road trips, hiking in Retezatul Mic and so on.

Schitul Straja, an unusual story

If you are at Straja make sure not to miss Schitul Straja. The story says that in 1996, in the Montana cabin, a tourist turned on the light in his room. The lightbulb went out, and the flame printed a cross on the bulb's glass.

The bulb was changed, however, two weeks later, the event happened again. A monk said it was because of the 800 soldiers that died in the First World War.

The Hero's Cross was later built in their memorial. Afterwards, the schit was built out of wood, and the 365 saints tunnel was constructed, being 57 metres long!
