The access to the waterfall has been managed with wooden steps and railings. In the Cârnic area there is a camping area, towards the Pietrele refuge. From here, many tourists head to the mountain trail to the peaks and glacial lakes of Retezat.
And, like any beautiful place in the "heart" of nature, Lolaia Waterfall has its own legend. This states that: once, a long time ago, at the end of summer, a beautiful shepherdess named Lolaia was coming down with her sheep from Retezat to her small village Nucșoara.
Suddenly, as if coming from nowhere, a huge and frightening looking creature fell on the flock and, with great greed, ate all the sheep. Immediately, out of fear, the girl's golden locks bleached, and she threw herself into the valley by the road. In the place where she landed, a deep hole was made in the rock, and the water of the stream formed a waterfall.
And now, at the Lolaia waterfall, you can see the two untied locks of the girl, flowing like two silver streams.
