The Enduro Panorama competition reached the 11th edition in 2019 and gathered at the start almost 400 riders, this year alone. The event transforms, for almost a week, the peaceful village of Ghelari near Hunedoara, not only into the enduro capital of Romania but also Europe.
For four days, usually in the first part of May, the forest paths are taken over by bikers. There are three classes of competition (hobby, expert and professional), but most participants, according to the organizers, generally enroll in the hobby class. Motorcyclists sometimes come from between 1,500 to 2,000 kilometers, or even more, to participate in this competition, which has gained more and more fame each year. The participants are excited not only about the competition atmosphere, but they also enjoy the splendid landscape offered by the mountain plateau of Ghelari, from which you can see all the surrounding mountains in Hunedoara county: Retezat, Șureanu, Apuseni and of course, the Poiana Ruscă mountains and even Muntele Mic, from Caraș-Severin county.
The course differs from year to year, but generally the riders have to travel, on the first day in the afternoon, a prologue (a shorter course) that can vary not only in distance that can be between 30 to 50 kilometers, but, of course, in difficulty. Moreover, the routes are different from year to year. The rest of the competition days start at 9 am.
In the following days the participants have to travel about 100 kilometers, on the most difficult routes. This year, for example, the routes were between Ghelari, Dăbâca, Hăşdău, Răchitova and Topliţa. On Saturday there were 100 kilometers on Florese and Lelese, with descents, but also spectacular climbs. Enduro lovers can follow the riders’ performance from several points on the route. The courses are marked with competition lanes, but the route is also available on GPS. The routes include footpaths, descents in valleys and steep and very slippery slopes, especially if it is raining, but also different trials especially in the former mining quarries. In addition, Enduro Panorama is the only competition in the world where motorcyclists can compete on a marble wall.
The award ceremony is usually scheduled for Sunday. The riders come from Poland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Spain, but the competition also registered motorcyclists from other continents.

The Forest Region competition was scheduled as the second stage of the National Hard Enduro Championship and is one of the most spectacular competitions in Romania. With the passing of the years, enduro bikers have gained experience themselves as participants as well as the competition. So, besides the motorcyclists who come here out of curiosity, for the first time, there are also veterans with six or seven or even more participations. They say that, besides the routes themselves, in addition to the fact that this contest gives them the opportunity to measure their powers outside the specially arranged circuits and the fairytale landscape, the atmosphere of the Enduro Panorama is what attracts them, like a magnet, every year.
