Oslea Night Ridge

Oslea Night Ridge is a mountain cross-country event that takes place in the Retezat Mic – Oslea – Iorgovanului Cliff area and is organized by the Valea Jiului Alpine Club. Oslea Night Ridge is, in fact, the continuation of the Iorgovanu Night Run event. The night route runs along the neighboring mountain, Oslea and maintains a vertical race pattern on the descending portion of the old night route.
The landscape is a fairy tale: two legendary mountains, Oslea and Iorgovanului Cliff, invite us to a unique competition of courage that tests the limits of all the competitors, but also the passion for mountain cross-country.

In 2019 the competition included two different teams that started from the same place: 1. Vertical Race – Iorgovanului Cliff- on the 10th of August – departure time at 09:00 a.m. 2. Oslea Night Ridge –on the 10th of August – departure time at 9:00 pm.

Traseul Vertical Race Piatra Iorgovanului are startul la zona de Camping Valea Iarului. El parcurge intrarea în Parcul National Retezat prin traseul de urcare spre Vârful cu același nume, Piatra Iorgovanului. Este un traseu de urcare de 3,6 kilometri, o urcare dificilă și solicitantă, cu 800 de metri diferență de nivel. Păduri seculare de foioase și conifere, pășuni alpine de un verde-smarald, pătate cu culorile florilor și ale plantelor care cresc doar aici, dar și formațiunile calcaroase specifice Retezatului și panorama splendidă care se deschide ochilor odată ajunși în vârf, fac din acest traseu nu doar o provocare, ci și o încântare. După plecarea dificilă, poteca de alergare se transformă într-o ascensiune progresivă, presărată cu porțiuni plate, iar spre finish se înaintează pe o porțiune de pășune alpină, către Piatra Iorgovanului, aflată la 2014 metri altitudine.

The route includes asphalt, forest road, mountain paths, challenging climbs, running routes, technical sections, climbs and descents and paths created by sheep. After more than 11 kilometers of route you will reach Ursu sheepfold – revitalization point as well as the 9th control point, from where the descent continues 2.5 km on a forest road, and after a 700 meters gentle climb you will reach the finish line – at Valea Iarului Campsite. The total distance traveled is 14.2 kilometers, with a level difference of 900 meters and 10 support point (hydration, feeding, orientation). As in the case of the Iorgovanului Cliff route, the mountain experience is absolutely necessary.
