The Municipal Park "Cetate" Deva is situated at the foot of the fortress within the county of Hunedoara. If in the past it was the garden of the Magna Curia Palace, now the park is one of the main attractions, especially during the summer season, because here anyone can cool off in the shade of dozens of trees. There is also a children's playground. At the initiative of Dr. Petru Groza, at the beginning of the 20th century, many species of trees were brought here, from the Simeria Dendrological Park, some of them surviving until today.
Shady alleys and children's playground
The Municipal Park "Cetate" Deva has undergone several changes over the years, with the rehabilitation works of the recreation area for the Deva inhabitants and visitors. At the main entrance to the park, on the left is a pedestrian statue of Decebal, and on the right is the house of Dr. Petru Groza. In the park, several alleys are shaded, especially in summer, by towering trees. These alleys would certainly have many stories to tell, if that were possible, because over the years, many love stories have been written here. In the center of the park there is a gazebo, where, during the summer, every Sunday visitors can enjoy music, from local bands who perform for locals and tourists with quality songs.
If in the years 1960-1970, there existed a mini zoo where a Carpathian bear could be admired. In addition to the trees that are here, such as linden, thuja, hornbeam, elm or juniper, there are also arranged areas with planters with different types of beautifully colored flowers, here you can also admire squirrels, which often descend from trees to close to people.
Artesian fountain, close to the fortress
Also in the park at the foot of the fortress there are numerous benches, so that people can spend as much time in nature as possible. Near the stairs leading to the Deva Fortress, there is a statue of Mihai Eminescu, in front of which was arranged an artesian fountain that further cools the atmosphere on hot summer days. There is also a book stand nearby. Visitors can browse the volumes provided by the County Library, which they will then place, again, on the shelves of the stand. The park is frequented not only by locals, but also by tourists in all seasons.
