Glodului Gorges are located on the border between the counties of Hunedoara and Alba and form a protected area of national interest, a natural reservation of geological, floristic and landscape features, on the administrative territory of Almașu Mare commune. The natural area is situated in the southeast of the Metaliferi Mountains, in the central-western part of Alba county, at the territorial border with Hunedoara countyand the northern one of Ardeu. More precisely between the villages of Ardeu and Glod.
The nature reserve has been declared a protected area since 2000 and covers an area of 20 hectares. The protected area is included in the Natura 2000 site - Glodului, Cibului and Madei Gorges and is a keystone formation, with rocks and cliffs, dug in limestone, which are attributed to the Upper Jurassic period, by the waters of Ardeului Valley, left tributary of the river Geoagiu . The rocks and stones have a special color, from gray to green, purple, yellow and many other colors. Here there are also springs, ground-springs, meadows and grasslands, which house a varied floristic range, consisting of trees, shrubs and grassy species.
The route is relatively difficult, being about 3-4 hours round trip. If you start from Ardeu, Hunedoara County, you have to climb a hill, reach a meadow, then a forest and only then go down to the water. It is advisable not to have too much luggage, because the route also involves entering the water. Indicated, given that the beauty of these gorges can be best admired in the middle of them, from the water. The water can be quite deep in some areas, and the stones on the bottom of Ardeu are quite slippery. Of course, there are also places where you can walk on land and be careful not to miss the most beautiful place here, called "La Strâmtură".
