The Deva Citadel and the superb view over the city and the Mureș Valley
Deva Fortress is one of the most important medieval fortifications in Transylvania and one of the top attractions in Hunedoara County. Thanks to its position on the hill that now bears its name (Citadel Hill), the fortress was a strategic defense point on the Mureș Valley, at today's border between Transylvania and Banat, on Romania's main artery connecting to Central and Western Europe.

If you choose to ascend on foot, passing through Gate 1, once you reach the citadel, the view that rewards your effort is truly worth it. You can admire the beautiful Mureș Valley, as well as the majestic peaks of the Retezat Mountains, Poiana Ruscă, Șureanu, and Metaliferii.
The Deva Fortress cable car
Another attractive way to ascend to Deva Fortress is by cable car. You can peacefully admire the beautiful landscapes without exerting any effort. This is the only inclined elevator in Romania, and in terms of the length of the route (278 meters) and the difference in elevation (158 meters), it is the first of its kind in Europe.
Deva Citadel Park
After a little stroll through the fortress, you can pause in the Municipal Park "Cetate" to listen to the beautiful songs of birds. It's a perfect relaxation spot, where ancient trees provide the desired coolness and shade in the summer. Here, there's also a generous playground for children, as well as an artesian fountain with water jets shooting up from ground level. In the summer, it's a real pleasure to walk through the park on weekends, while in the gazebo inside, live performances of famous melodies from all times can be enjoyed.
The Museum of the Dacian and Roman Civilization Deva
After relaxing in the park, head towards the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization in Deva, where a series of unique exhibitions await you. These include the "Matrița," an impressive collection of old books, and some of the most spectacular objects from the Hunedoara treasure.

Visit to Bejan Park
Another great place for walking and relaxation is Bejan Park. Here, there's a playground for children as well as a few animals that children can interact with. It's a wonderful spot for some fresh air and relaxation. Children can get acquainted with the animals here, with the clear note that they are not allowed to feed them.
The route of Ghinduța and the Bejan Forest Oaks
Just a few steps away from Bejan Park lies another magnificent place, Bejan Forest. Here, two hiking trails have been arranged: Ghinduță Trail and Oak Trail.
The Oak Trail leads you along the footsteps of oak species and numerous hybrids, while Ghinduță Trail is designed for children and awaits visitors with information about the forest, as well as many surprises.
Bejan Forest is the most important oak hybridization center in Romania and is unique in Europe. Although the presence of hybrids has been reported and studied by a small scientific community since the 19th century, the natural reserve has remained almost unknown to the general public.
The musical fountain, "from Cal", actually in the evening
We continue the presentation of tourist objectives and other attractions in the Deva area and its surroundings

I Giardini di Zoe, a real garden of Heaven, in Banpotoc
A place with a unique energy, a aristocratic garden unlike any other in Romania, was created by an Italian businessman just a few kilometers from the city of Deva, in the village of Banpotoc: the gardens of I Giardini di Zoe.
Hundreds of ornamental trees and shrubs, each carefully placed in its own place, fountains, on which the birds land and then delight visitors with their songs, paths that take you to heaven, colours that blend in an exquisite way, all this makes you think you have arrived in a fairy tale.
Here, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll and rest in the shade, giving your eyes the chance to fully delight your soul.
Măgura Uroiului, the Dacian cushma from the Mureșului Valley
From here, on the same side of the river, you can reach Măgura Uroiului. Few people know that this is a protected area of national interest, a natural geological reserve covering an area of 10 hectares, formed as a result of volcanic activity.
Due to its unique shape, the ridge overlooking the waters of the Mureș River near Simeria is nicknamed "Cușma lui Decebal" (Decebal's Cap). If you practice paragliding, then this place is more than perfect for pursuing this sport. In the height of summer, the most important historical reenactment festival, "DacFest," takes place here.
Simeria dendrological park, a history of hundreds of years
If you've visited I Giardini di Zoe, try to "get lost" in the Simeria Dendrological Park as well. This park began to take shape on the banks of the Mureș River approximately 300 years ago. Today, it is a national monument in park art. It is recognized as the oldest and most valuable collection of native and exotic trees and woody plants.
Nature offers here, in every season of the year, a magical spectacle of light and color.
